Louise and Mike's beautiful wedding in Northumberland - even though it was now 6 months ago, I remember it like it was yesterday. From the moment that we met, we just clicked and I knew from the start that we would make a great team. I am happy to say that I wasn't wrong! Louise and Mike wedding story took us from a charming church in Rothbury, across the stunning Northumberland countryside to Ellingham Hall for their celebrations. Their day was romantic, and enchanting. A traditional english countryside wedding, focused on family, friends, love and celebration.
What is your story?
'We met the Saturday after Burn's Night in 2012, Mike had been out for a Burn's Night supper with some mutual friends (including our bridesmaid Justina) and was wearing a full dinner suit, I had arranged to meet Justina for drinks later in the evening - little did I know I was about to meet my future husband! We hit it off straight away (although Miss Independent refused to allow Mike to buy her a drink) and the rest is history!'
'If ever there was an unexpected proposal this was it - we were on holiday in Majorca, just a few days before my brother and sister-in-law's wedding. A few people asked me if I thought Mike may propose in the sun, to which I replied - "the week before my brother's wedding? No chance!" Well he caught me off guard and I'm so pleased he did. We had hired a little boat for the day and took it out to sea, Mike had bought fizz and planned a romantic proposal docked up in a bay somewhere - unfortunately the weather turned and the boat almost capsized! But captain Mike managed to navigate us to safety and while I was sitting wrapped in a towel and a bright pink jumper, drinking cava out of a cardboard cup - completely oblivious - Mike got down on one knee, it was absolutely perfect, just the two of us floating on the Med. The cheeky bugger even managed to capture it on his GoPro!'
What was your inspiration?
'We had so many friends and family travelling from far and wide that we wanted to find somewhere that we could all stay together, to wake up the next morning in the same venue and share their company for an extra day, so a stately home where we could all stay was at the top of our list. We really wanted the wedding to feel intimate and personal, that was our main aim and the theme just sort of followed. Mike was absolutely fantastic, other than the dress he was involved in everything, he even helped me with the stationary!'
'The church we got married in has great significance to us both and when we viewed Ellingham Hall we didn't even to confer, we booked it there and then and never looked back.'
What was most memorable?
'The entire wedding day was so perfect, neither of us would change a single thing, for that reason it is so hard to pinpoint one single thing! The journey from the church to the reception was the most special for us both as it was just the two of us and we finally had some time together for the whole thing to sink in, although we were giddy the whole journey!'
Why was photography important to you?
'We had a strict budget for our wedding but we both agreed that the photography was the one element that we would not compromise on. The quality of the photographs was important but what we really wanted was a photographer who could capture our day and be able to tell our story. We searched high and low for a long time, we looked at some fabulous prints and met some talented photographers but they just didn't feel right - that was until we stumbled upon Chrissie at a wedding fair at the Sage! From the moment we met we knew that we wanted 2Tone to be a part of our day - not only were the samples exactly what we were after, but Chrissie's warm personality and absolute professionalism were second to none, she got so excited when she heard we were getting married at Ellingham Hall. We then had the pleasure of meeting Nigel soon after and that was the cherry on the top! Such a talented couple who compliment each other perfectly and their passion shows in the quality of their work.
My advice would be to remember that it is your wedding - the day is about the two of you and nobody else. Focus on what you want and not the guests. Enjoy the planning process, you'll miss it (weirdly!) when it's done.
What is your favorite part of being married now?
I think for us both it is just the feeling of having a husband/wife, it's indescribable really, we had lived together for a long time before marriage but we both feel more complete now.
