Durham Castle - Briony and Edward

Durham Castle weddings are always a joy to photograph. I love the history and character of the castle, the old elegance of the interior, the dark wood paneling, the cathedral-high ceilings, and the stained glass windows to match. It really is something out of a fairytale. The Castle couldn’t have been a more perfect choice for Briony and Edward’s wedding day.

Being from out of the area, Briony hired a lovely little Airbnb close to Nevilles Cross for her and her girls to get ready in, while the lads got ready in the castle before walking down to St Nic’s church in Durham’s Market Place for their wedding ceremony. By the time Briony arrived, a crowd of onlookers had gathered, who cheered and applauded as she got out of the wedding car and walked into the church on her dad’s arm. After a beautiful ceremony, we jumped into our cars and headed over to Prebends Bridge for a few photographs while their guests made their way up to the castle for their celebrations. It was a beautiful elegant wedding, and we loved every moment.

Healey Barn - Laura and Elliot

Laura and Elliot’s wedding day at Healy Barn in Northumberland was another fabulous day at this stunning venue. We started the day with them both as they got ready in Healey Hall, a beautiful Georgian mansion a short distance away, and with 17 bedrooms, it was large enough to accommodate many of their guests too. Their day flowed beautifully, from their romantic ceremony to their energetic party at the end of the evening. It was a day full of laughter and fun.

Laura had told us before their wedding that she really wanted to get those perfect sunset shots at the end of the day, however sometimes as the light dims in the evening, there is no sunset to photograph. This was one of those days, but because we love a bit of a challenge, we headed to the woods, got the flash guns out, added an orange gel, and made them a sunset!

Ellingham Hall - Grace and Shaun

Ellingham Hall in Northumberland has always been one of our favourite venues to work at. We love its art deco decor and relaxed friendly vibe, so when Grace and Shaun got in touch to ask us to photograph their March wedding day, we were delighted. Their wedding day was everything you could hope for a wedding to be. A gorgeous couple who are deeply in love, a fabulous venue, fair weather, and a wonderful group of people to share the day with all topped off with some amazing music provided by Andy Usher. It was a day filled with laughter and fun and was a joy to photograph.

It was also fabulous to catch up with Grace’s sister Amanda and her husband Matthew whose wedding we photographed at the Ramside Hall Hotel back in 2012, and family friends Colin and Susan who are the parents of Rachel whose wedding we photographed at Langley Castle in 2010, and Laura whose wedding we photographed at Thief Hall later in 2022.

Healey Barn - Kristina and Richie

In March, we were back at Healey Barn in Northumberland for day 2 of Kristina and Richie’s wedding. Due to the pandemic, in early 2021 they opted to get married at their local registry office - Hexham House, with a reduced number of guests. While it was a wonderful day in every way, it was so good to see them finally having the day that they had been dreaming of. Kristina and her girls got ready at their home, while Richie and the lads opted for the Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland. They renewed their vows at Healey Barn and celebrated with all of their family and friends well into the night. After booking us four years ago, several meet-ups and chats on the phone, along with two wedding days, I can't express enough, how wonderful it was to be a part of their day.
