Jesmond Dene House - Clare and James

Jesmond Dene House is definitely worth a look if you are looking for a wedding venue that has city amenities and easy transport links close by but all the wow factor of a country house. Situated minutes away from the centre of Newcastle, Jesmond Dene House has all the luxury of a top boutique hotel, surrounded by trees and open space, and just a short walk away, everything that Jesmond Dene has to offer.

With guests coming from far and wide, Clare and James decided that Jesmond Dene House was the perfect place for their wedding. James and the lads got ready at Jesmond Dene House while Clare and her bridesmaids got ready at her parent’s home. Clare’s bridesmaids looked beautiful in their navy dresses with contrasting white and blush bouquets, but not more so than Clare herself who wore a stunning v-neck wedding gown with a softly flowing skirt. I adored Clare’s dress, it was classic and elegant, and beautifully cut, and it couldn’t have been more perfect for her.

After their ceremony, which included a really funny reading by James’ dad about two lovely dinosaurs, they all headed outside for drinks, lawn games, and some great magic, performed by magician Martin Duffy, before taking their seats back in the Great hall to listen to some great speeches and share a meal together.

We know from experience that in the summer months, the light is always better after dinner for pictures of just the two of them. With the sun lower in the sky, the light is softer and takes a golden hue, so after dinner, the four of us took a walk down to the Dene for some pictures with the waterfall and bridge. I am so pleased that we waited, the pictures speak for themselves - the light was magical!

We met Clare and James way back in 2017 at her sister Lizzie’s wedding at Healey Barn. It was wonderful to spend more time with her family and catch up with Lizzie and Alessio. Clare and James are two of the most wonderful people you could hope to meet, and so clearly made for each other. Their wedding was wonderful in every way and it was a joy to photograph.

Wynyard Hall - Gemma and Jonny

Wynyard Hall is always a treat to work at. We’ve worked here many times, but have never taken it for granted. Not only is the house itself incredibly stunning, but the grounds are to die for too. They have around 120 acres of land, a lake, carefully tended lawns and even a walled garden. We were back at Wynyard Hall for Gemma and Jonny’s beautiful traditional wedding. The Gemma and the girls got ready in one of the gorgeous cottages within the estate, while Jonny and the lads were in the Gardeners' cottage within the grounds of the walled garden. Their ceremony took place in the onsite 18th-century chapel, after which, they enjoyed drinks with their guests in the statue gallery, and then moved to the conservatory for their meal. It had been quite overcast for much of the day, with a short but heavy rain shower just before the ceremony, but after their meal, the sun came out, so what better excuse did we need to get outside for a little walk to explore the stunning grounds? It was a wonderful day with a really fantastic couple.

Beamish Hall - David and Anthony

In June, we found ourselves back at Beamish Hall for David and Anthony’s wedding. We met David a few years back when he worked as a barman at Beamish Hall, but since then, he moved to America, met his soulmate Anthony, and made a new life for himself in San Diego, CA. When it came to deciding where to get married, I don’t think that there was any other choice for either of them. David felt the pull to come back to the UK and Beamish Hall, and Anthony dreamed of getting married in a traditional English Country House.

It was a day filled with fun and laughter, love and joy, with a wonderful group of people who had traveled from across the world - and we were delighted to have been a part of it.

Beamish Hall - Daiana and Simon

Out of all of our couples who had to postpone their weddings due to the Covid Pandemic, none had to wait longer for their big day to come around than Daiana and Simon. Daiana and Simon were due to be married in March 2020. Everything was planned and paid for, all loose ends were tied, and only days away from the big day, the first lockdown happened and put a halt on everything. As soon as weddings were allowed again, they got married at the Durham registry office (with only 6 attendees, including us) but also continued with their plans for a larger event to celebrate with their family and friends. We have been on quite a journey together, planning and replanning, two weddings, and all of the ups and downs of changing dates. It was amazing to finally see them have the day that they deserved and it was wonderful to be there to photograph these two lovely people on both of their special days.
